Microcurrent Therapy- An Innovative Way to Improve Your Mental Health without the Talk

🐬 What is microcurrent therapy, and what does a dolphin have to do with it?

Microcurrent therapy (also known as MPS) provides stress relief, pain relief, and nervous system regulation by delivering a very small electrical current to targeted spots on the body.

The Dolphin MPS system is an innovate tool that delivers both microcurrent treatment and vagal toning, each of which help to combat the stress response and improve nervous system stability. This trauma-informed treatment modality allows for trauma to be released from the body without needing to talk through the details of the trauma. In fact, newer somatic approaches such as MPS have been proven just as effective, or even more effective, than talk therapy.

As a new therapist (nearly 20 years ago), I learned the hard way how NOT to do trauma healing work. As many young therapists starting out back then, we didn’t realize that talking about one’s trauma without establishing the ability to self-regulate can be more harmful than helpful. As new research came out over the years, we have learned safer and more effective techniques for doing trauma work. Once I understood the paradigm of talk therapy for trauma and I learned the neuroscience of trauma, a somatic approach has been my go to method. I’ve seen significantly more progress in reduction of PTSD symptoms with my clients, since fine tuning my approach to include complementary and alternative approaches that address trauma at its core.

So, what about the Dolphin? 🐬 It’s the device we use in our clinic. It’s called the Dolphin because it makes a high-pitched, dolphinesque noise when we locate the points in the body that need to be treated. Once the target point is located, microcurrent stimulation is briefly administered. Clinician training includes learning treatment protocols that help us provide targeted treatments for issues ranging from anxiety, addiction, pain, traumatic brain injury, and mastectomy scars (just to name a few). Data reveals that heart rate variability (a key indicator of your stress response) increases with Dolphin treatments.

Microcurrent therapy is an effective way to deal with stress or to reduce unwanted symptoms. Email Leslie Boyett for more information or to set up a brief consultation to see if Dolphin MPS can benefit you. lboyett@ljwellnessla.com
